Play chess with no need for a partner

WinBoard Portable is a small application with which you can play chess on your own.

If you are a big fan of this well-known board game, then you’ll love that this program includes several versions of chess, from the international to the Chinese, Japanese, and Makruk versions.

The way it works is very simple. You just have to know the rules and choose the mode you want to play in: either against a chess engine or using Internet connection sharing (ICS) which allows you to play against people from all over the world and even chat with them as you do so.

Once you’ve chosen the mode, your game will appear on the screen. By default, you’ll play as white, but you can change this whenever you want.

WinBoard Portable works using your mouse; all you have to do is click on the piece you want to move and the places you can move it will automatically appear on the board.

You have five minutes to consider your next move; plus, as you play, an evaluation graphic will appear to show you how effective your decisions are.
